The English book club
Theme: Love
Poem 1: A Deux
I pinch your arm,
You twist my leg,
I make you cry,
You make me beg,
I dry your eyes,
You wipe my nose,
And that’s the way
The kissing goes.
Poem 2: A Winter’s Tale
Yesterday the fields were only grey with scattered snow,
And now the longest grass-leaves hardly emerge;
Yet her deep footsteps mark the snow, and go
On towards the pines at the hill’s verge.
I cannot see her, since the mist’s pale scarf
Obscures the dark wood and the full orange sky;
But she’s waiting, I know, impatient and cold, half
Sobs struggling into her frosty sigh.
Why does she come so promptly, when she must know
She’s only the nearer to the inevitable farewell?
The hill is steep, on the snow my steps are slow-
Why does she come, when she knows what I have to tell?
Poem 3: Music I Heard
Music I heard with you was more than music,
And bread, I broke with you was more than bread;
Now that I am without you, all is desolate;
All that was once so beautiful is dead.
Your hands once touched this table and this silver,
And I have seen your fingers hold this glass.
These things do not remember you, beloved,
And yet your touch upon them will not pass.
For it was in my great you moved among them,
And blessed them with your hands and with your eyes;
And in my heart they will remember always,-
They knew you once, O beautiful and wise.
Theme: Family
Poem 4: Your Children Are Not Your Children
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thought,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.
Poem 5: To a Daughter Leaving Home
When I taught you
at eight to ride
a bicycle, loping along
beside you
as you wobbled away
on two round wheels,
my own mouth rounding
in surprise when you pulled
ahead down the curved
path of the park,
I kept waiting
for the thud
of your crash as I
sprinted to catch up,
while you grew
smaller, more breakable
with distance,
pumping, pumping
for your life, screaming
with laughter,
the hair flapping
behind you like a
handkerchief waving
goodbye.

Poem 6: 25th High School Reunion
We come to hear the endings
of all the stories
in our anthology
of false starts:
how the girl who seemed as hard as nails
was hammered into shape;
how the athletes ran out of races;
how under the skin our skulls rise
to the surface
like rocks in the bed
of a drying stream.
Look! We have all
turned into
ourselves.
Poem 7: Go Gentle
You have grown wings of pain,
and flap around the bed like a
wounded gull
calling for water, calling for tea, for
grapes
whose skins you cannot penetrate.
Remember when you taught me
how to swim? Let go, you said,
the lake will hold you up.
I long to say, Father let go
and death will hold you up.
Outside the fall goes on without us.
How easily the leaves give in,
I hear them on the last breath of wind,
Passing this disappearing place.
In the English club
I read 7 articles
The title is love , live , family
All of them are very good
The first and two
Say the love of two young and the a little old people
But the end is not the same
One is a happy ending
But another is not
In the 4.5
Both say the children thing
One is speak patent not to make children so serious
One is the daughter will leaving
They think the past year
In the last two article
Saying the live
My was very like the 7
This article is very deep and have good guide for me
Maybe I didn’t have the same thing
But
The thing in my heart is make large waves
I hope in the
